Solid Angle, and the Arnold renderer, were acquired by Autodesk in 2016. As part of the ongoing integration process, Arnold transitioned to the Autodesk Licensing Framework on July 25, 2017. This change applies to new licenses of Arnold. The Autodesk Licensing Framework is the same licensing technology used for many of Autodesk's other software products including Autodesk® Maya® and Autodesk® 3ds Max®.
Additionally, starting on August 7, 2017 Autodesk will begin to transition entitlements for existing maintenance and subscription customers to the Autodesk Licensing Framework. This process should take approximately 3 weeks to complete.
Moving to this new licensing system means that license managers will have to change the way they access, download, register, activate and manage their Arnold licenses and subscriptions.
These license changes do not impact the functionality or user experience with Arnold.
Moving to the Autodesk Licensing Framework offers several advantages including, but not limited to:
- A single license manager for all Autodesk software.
- License Borrowing (allows users to easily move a license from one machine to another).
- Immediate access to new licenses and software updates (an easier way for users to keep up to date on the latest Arnold improvements).
- Virtual machine (VM) license servers are supported.
Thanks for your continued support.
